How Do I Insert Page Numbers?
-- by Loretta --
These instructions work for Word Perfect.
When your book is complete, you will probably have it in several files because it has become so large with the pictures inserted. Begin with your first file and place the cursor at the top of the first page that you want numbered. Protocol is that there is no page number for the title page or table of contents. So place the cursor on the first page that begins the story. Click on "Format", then "Page", then "Numbering". A box will appear. The top window gives you the option of where you want your number to appear on the book, i.e., bottom center, top right, etc. Select your choice. Then look at the bottom window. It asks you how you want your number to appear, i.e., 1, -1-, Page 1, etc. Select your choice and then click on "OK". Number one will appear on the page that the cursor was on and it should continue automatically to the end of that file. You must note what page number this file ends on so that you can set the value for the first page number of the next file. Now, you will need to set the page numbering again for each additional file that is part of your history.
On the second file, when you have the cursor in place at the top of the first page, you will need to go through the same steps of "Format", "Page" and "Numbering". Then in the box there is an option to "Set Value". Click on this option and type in the beginning page number for the second file to begin. The following pages will follow suit. In this way, you can have a very large book that is numbered correctly throughout. Once you get the numbers in place, then you can go back to your table of contents and fill in the page numbers.
