Why Interview Their Relatives and Friends? -- by Loretta -- When you’re typing a story of a living person, it’s a much more exciting history because the person can tell you so much more about their life. They have friends and family alive to add in anecdotes. Interviewing others tells as much about the history of that person as interviewing the person. Our parents love this section of the book very much because they learn things from others that they never knew before. They suddenly see how much meaning their life gave to others. We have put this section at the end and have waited until nearly the end of the project to show it to them. Then it’s a big surprise. But we’ve never printed the book without them seeing it first. We wouldn’t want to violate the feeling that this is their book, their autobiography. This section is the most difficult to complete. How do you find their friends? How quickly do they respond? Some will act promptly and send a written message to you. Others you may have to telephone and type as they talk. At least then, you’re getting it done. Get this process rolling in the beginning while you’re working on other aspects of the book. |
