How Do I Get My Book Printed? -- by Loretta -- Take your files to the printing store. If you plan on publishing your history as a book, you can take your files to the printing store. Shop around. There are differences in prices. The printing store will take your disks and turn your document into a condensed file that cannot be altered (See PDF). It will also take the color out of the pictures. Now your book will be totally black and white unless you make a special request to have it in color. This can add quite a bit to the expense. Choose good thick paper. They have several soft binding options for your to choose from... spiral, etc. There will be set up fees. If there are many books to be printed, you may want to begin gathering orders before you’re finished with the book. Then when it’s ready to be printed, you are certain of how many and you have the cash in hand. Receive your printed book. Bind the book with a hardcover if it's 200 pages or larger. Hardcovers protect the book for longer. Hardcovers add roughly $10-$15 to the price of the book. The more books being bound, the lower the price. Distribute your books. Make it a special experience, at least for the close relatives if possible. Suggest that they autograph the book as they hand them to their grandchildren. |
